The Goldcrest is 90mm long and its color is different shades of brown with narrow white wing bars and distinctive head pattern. The female Goldcrest has a yellow narrow stripe on the top of its head, and the male has an orange stripe edged with black lines. It has a plain face and also has a conspicuous black eye. Lastly it has tiny bundles of feathers.
Diet-Feeding Habitat: The Goldcrest eats different types of bugs, like the Hemiptera, Coleoptera, Lepidoptera Larvae, Diptera, and Arachnida. In the food web they are probably close to the bottom of the food web. I think that if they compete for food with another animal and that animal is bigger than they are, they will probably lose the competition for the food. Predators: I think that a lot of animals will be able to fit this bird in their mouths. For example a snake can fit a lot of different kind of animals in its mouth. Another example is an alligator or a crocodile. I am sure that more animals can eat it rather than the three that I wrote down. I think that what stood out as I was reading about my animal, was that the male and the female Goldcrest birds have a different color on the tops of their heads. I learned that there are a lot of interesting facts about birds. I hope to learn more about different birds as I go on through my life.
